Frequently asked questions

Why convert mono to stereo?

Some video editors, DAWs, and broadcast systems require stereo tracks. Converting mono to dual-mono stereo makes your audio compatible with stereo-only workflows without altering its content.

Is this true stereo or dual mono?

This tool creates dual-mono stereo — both channels are identical. True stereo requires separate left/right recordings. Dual-mono is perfectly compatible with stereo systems and is the standard upgrade path from mono.

Will I get a wider soundstage?

No. Because both channels are identical, the audio will play dead-center in the stereo field. To widen the sound you'd need to add stereo effects in a DAW after conversion.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser via the Web Audio API. Your audio never leaves your device.

What if I upload a stereo file?

The tool will still work — it reads the first channel and duplicates it to both channels, effectively converting to dual-mono. For a truly stereo pass-through, no processing is needed.
